[미술] 한국의 미술지원 프로그램 The ARTRO 잘한다!

정부의 지원사업은 여러모로 도움이 많이 된다. 최근에 발견한 프로그램은 문체부가 지원하는 The ARTRO라는 사업이다.

진입장벽이 높은 미술의 경우 특히 이러한 지원이 소중하다. 케이팝이 세계적으로 확산한 이유에도 그간 꾸준히 이뤄진 문체부의 지원이 어느정도는 기여를 했다고 생각한다. 사실 시장이 먼저 알아본 케이팝의 물결에 정부가 살짝 올라탄느낌이 없지 않지만, 그래도 관의 지원은 최소한의 안전장치를 마련해준다고 생각한다. 

한가지 좀 아쉬운 점은 한국이라는 정체성을 너무나 전면에 내세운다는 점이다. 누가봐도 정부가 지원하는게 보인다. 좀 겸연쩍긴하다. 아티스트의 탁월함은 구지 '한국'이 아니어도 국적을 불문한 모든 이들에게 공통적으로 느낄 수 있을 것이다.  그럼에도 불구하고 이런 The ARTRO와 같은 세련된 플랫폼이 있기에 해외 아트애호가에 한국의 작가들이 소개될 수 있다는 점은 좋은 시도라고 생각한다. 

아티스트에 대한 직접지원말고 해외 미술관 또는 큐레이터가 한국 미술가를 전시에 사용하도록 지원하는 상품도 나왔다. KAMS(Korea Arts Management Service) 라는 프로그램이다.  이 또한 '한국'을 전면에 내세우는 원초적이고 속이 좀 보이는 것이긴 하나 일단 미술판 자체에 올라가기 어려운 시장에서 이렇게 등떠밀어주는 지원제도는 너무나 소중하다고 생각한다. 

Government programs can be very helpful in many ways. One program I recently discovered is called The ARTRO, which is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Korea.

This is especially important for arts with high barriers to entry. I think the consistent support from the Ministry of Culture has contributed to the global spread of K-pop. In fact, there is a feeling that the government slightly rode the wave of K-pop that the market recognized first, but I think the support from Kwan provides a minimum safety net. 

One thing that is a little disappointing is that it puts the Korean identity too much in the forefront. You can see the government's support. It's a little humbling. The excellence of the artists is something that can be felt by all people regardless of nationality, even if they are not 'Korean'.  Nevertheless, I think it's a good idea to have a sophisticated platform like The ARTRO to introduce Korean artists to overseas art lovers. 

In addition to direct support for artists, there are also products that support overseas museums or curators to use Korean artists in their exhibitions. This is a program called KAMS (Korea Arts Management Service).  Although this is also a primitive and transparent way to put 'Korea' in the forefront, I think it is very valuable to have such a support system in a market where it is difficult to get on the art board itself.
